Mijas Foreigners department have been providing foreign residents with help and support in dealing with the most important aspects of life in Spain for over 20 years. The Mijas foreigners department was the very first to open in Spain and is now copied across the country in areas with high numbers of foreign residents.
Most new residents have many questions when they arrive in a new country and a lot to deal with including finding somewhere to live, opening bank accounts, the health system plus registering the children into a local school.
The foreign department can answer your questions along with offering advice on paying local taxes.
They also organize social events including concerts, wine tastings, education courses, language classes, and short trips.
Foreign residents can also volunteer in the foreign department. Using Mijas schools, the department has organized a group of English speakers to help students with their studies a couple of mornings a week. Foreigners who speak good Spanish can volunteer through the interpreter service that helps at Police and Guardia Civil stations, local health centers, and surgeries. Volunteers are always needed.
The foreign department Mijas office is located in the town hall and is open Monday to Friday 9 am – 2 pm. They can be contacted by:
