Mijas carnival takes place this sunday, March 6th. The celebrations start at 11am with a parade throughout the village. The municipal band will also be playing music as the entire village is transformed into a big street party.
The Carnival in Mijas is traditionally held 40 days before Easter and was banned during the reign of Franco from 1938 – 1981. With the death of Franco and the establishment of democracy in Spain, the carnival returned.
With many people from around the area and tourists making the journey to Mijas and wearing fancy dress and masks, this will add to the carnival atmosphere in town.
Parades will also take place in La Cala de Mijas and Las Lagunas.
