Located directly across from the World Trade Center Site, St. Pauls Chapel, an Episcopal church, was home to an extraordinary eight-month volunteer relief effort after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. The chapel is the oldest public building in continuous use and the only remaining colonial era church in Manhattan. George Washington worshiped here on Inauguration Day, April 30, 1789, and attended services at St. Pauls during the two years New York City was the countrys capital.
